Etsy’s Share Your Love 2012

Friday, January 20th, 2012

Photo and Card by http://www.etsy.com/shop/HenPenDesigns

Special Delivery, Etsy-style

Last year, Etsy created their Special Delivery project, a day of volunteering aligned with Valentine’s Day where Etsy employees delivered Meals-On-Wheels to home-bound seniors, along with homemade cards. In 2011, they collected of 3,500 cards from all over – Pasadena to Indonesia. Any they’re doing it again this year!

Here are three ways that you too can share some love and companionship this upcoming Valentine’s Day:

1) Create cards and donate them to your local Meals-On-Wheels affiliate (find yours here)

Cards should follow the following rules (according to the experts at Etsy):

    • No glitter! This creates food safety issues.
    • Please make your cards cheerful by using bright colors. You can decorate cards using paint, crayons, markers, pastels, collage or anything else you can think of.
    • Please avoid dark backgrounds and religious symbols.
    • Please write clearly in large print and avoid using the abbreviation “V-day.” Please say “Valentine’s Day.”
    • You should not give out your address or suggest that the recipients write back to you. Initiating an ongoing correspondence is not appropriate.
    • Please make sure that the cards are appropriate for the intended audience. That is to say, pretend it’s for your sweet sweet grandma, not your snarky, angst-ridden teenage brother.

OR

2) Make homemade cards and send them in to Etsy HQ by February 7. Still follow the rules above.

Send them to:

Etsy
Attn: Katie Rose Crosswhite
55 Washington St.
Suite 512
Brooklyn, NY 11201

If you want to be more social in making your cards, join Etsy’s official MeetUp page to find a local branch in your area. MeetUp and make homemade cards!

OR

3) Purchase a handmade card from one of the numerous Etsy vendors that sell amazing creations, and use their for your local efforts or have them shipped to the address above.

Enjoy!

How One Company Saves Thousands of Dogs Using Social Media

Tuesday, November 15th, 2011

It’s no secret that we are animals lovers here at Tarte. Here is an incredible story about how one organization is saving thousands of dogs using social media:

Social media is all the rage, but does it actually help create real change in the world? The folks at Best Friends Animal Society would answer with a resounding yes!

Best Friends has introduced the Invisible Dogs Campaign, a nod to the invisible dog leash from the ‘70s and ‘80s. “Invisible dogs” refer to the forgotten pets found in city shelters that face tremendous odds to get adopted. “[We’re] turning that into a real message about adopting dogs unseen in the nation’s shelters,” explains Claudia Perrone, marketing manager for Best Friends.

Best Friends provides a valuable example of social media mobilizing people to take action in the real world.

1. Beginner: Hashtags

Use them — constantly. Twitter hashtags are an extremely effective (and free) way to consolidate topics and information that relate to your campaign. The Invisible Dogs campaign uses #InvisibleDogs in every tweet, every mention, every IRL adoption event and on the home page of its microsite to spread the word and let people track the whole conversation around the campaign.

2. Intermediate: Drive Action

The Invisible Dogs campaign asks people to take action by pledging online. Without pushing people to make an immediate commitment to adopt a shelter dog, the campaign urges people to pledge any action (adoption, dog walking, etc.) that helps invisible dogs. So far 1,758 people have made the pledge.

3. Advanced: User-Generated Content and Events

Letting people run with your message or events is scary, but it can be worth the effort. Best Friends hosts a DogWall where people share adoption photos, videos, text stories, tweets and Facebook messages. People can text photos to the wall instead of logging in to upload.

Best Friends is also using Meetup.com’s Everywhere capability to let people create their own events all over the country. People sign in with their Facebook accounts to join or to create a local Invisible Dogs walk or “pup crawl.”

What’s Next?

Most interesting, Best Friends gathers user-generated content to identify dogs that need help. It’s also worked with FourSquare on National Shelter Check-In Day on Nov. 12.

The content, conversation and online social-sharing activity generated by this digital movement will help Best Friends save thousands of dogs by 2012.

Cincinnati Spring Fling Logo

Tuesday, April 7th, 2009

The Cincinnati Horticultural Society’s Spring Fling Committee approached Tarte Advertising in 2007 about developing a logo for the Cincinnati Flower Show’s annual after party — Spring Fling. The committee was looking for a versatile logo that could be used for years to come (this is the second year for the logo). Tarte developed a logo that was fresh, fun and could be utilized in several different formats depending on where it was being used.

This year the party is on April 24, 2009. With the musical entertainment of DJ Will and Naked Karate Girls, an array of food, drinks and over 1,600 guests expected this year. The party starts at 8pm and continues until 1am at the Museum Center at Union Terminal.

See you there!
