Tarte Advertising, Inc. is currently seeking a creative and detail-oriented Junior Graphic Design/Production Assistant to work with our Creative Director in our office in Blue Ash, that can start immediately. The position is a Part Time position, with the possibility of turning in to a Full Time position.
Duties & Responsibilities Include (but are not limited to):
• Resizing and editing existing print designs
• Concepting and creating various small print projects (business cards, brochures, note cards, direct mail, etc)
• Preparing files for press and web
• Assisting with concepting for various large projects
• Image searching
Requirements:
• 1-2 years design experience
• Experience using Mac design programs including Photoshop, Illustrator, QuarkXPress, InDesign
• Knowledge of preparing files for press
• Excellent time management and organizational skills
• Excellent communication and interpersonal skills
• Web design knowledge preferred, but not mandatory
This position will work approximately 20 hours per week in-house. Tarte Advertising is flexible with the exact time and days required.
Pay based on experience.

We have been working with Websites By Kristen for over 3 years now & truly have enjoyed building a great relationship with the company. They are fast, experienced, smart and we just work really well together. Yesterday, Websites By Kristen posted a blog entry that I found to not only be one filled with great advice, but also one that made me laugh out loud – several times. Top 10 Things I HATE To Put in A Website
Lets face it, there’s a lot of ugly websites out there. The Oatmeal published one of my favorite articles about the life of a web designer which can be found here: http://theoatmeal.com/comics/design_hell. There is a fine balance between doing what you know is best as a professional web designer and doing what your client wants in order to please them.
Most of the time you can come to a happy medium, but sometimes you just have to give in and do what the client’s wallet wants or risk not getting paid for your work. I definitely have several websites I have completed that I feel are not worthy of my portfolio because my client butchered a really good design with crazy web crap. So here’s a fun little list of the top 10 things I HATE to put in a website.
1. Animated Gifs. These were cool in 1992 on a personal geocities website… not in 2010 on a professionally designed business website. I would rather fire myself from a job than have 60 dancing bananas all over a website I designed.
 … kill me now…
2. Scrolling marquee text. People hate to read, so why would you want to force them to read MOVING TEXT!! So counterproductive….
Websites by Kristen does not condone the use of scrolling marquee’s. Make it stop!!!!
3. Large font size… I’m sorry, but most people can read 12-14 point font. Just because you are blind and can’t read your own website doesn’t mean the rest of the world can’t. That’s why they make accessibility tools in your browser.
Your body text font should not be this big! If you think it should, get some glasses!

Are you a person who will walk down the aisle of the grocery store, or through the makeup department or around the wine store and purchase something just because of the way it is packaged? If it looks pretty, then you purchase it? I admit it, I am that person – and it drives my husband crazy! I can walk into Sephora with no intentions on buying anything (because I don’t need anything) and walk out of there with a bag full of products that are packaged perfectly.
I love packaging. It is design on a 3-D level and the results can be amazing. Not every designer is great at package design, but the ones who are make me want to stare at their designs all day. Below are just a few examples of what I feel is fabulous packaging.
Some of these examples I love for the simplicity of the design. That simplicity helps them to stand out on a shelf full of clutter. Others I love for the use of fonts. There isn’t one style that I like – it just has to stand out to me.

I love pattern. I love anything that repeats. It is the designer in me, for sure. While I was reading up about the birthday of the bar code, I found a gallery of images that were just really amazing too me. It reminded me that design, and patterns, in particular, are everywhere. In your home, at your office, on the street, in the sky, on the beach – everywhere.

Look around today. Where do you see patterns? You may find them in the most unusual places. Over the next week or so, I am going to look for pattern in odd places, take pictures of it and post on the blog. Check back for my pattern finds.
