The Questions

What is something you always buy and give a friend or family member for the holidays?

What’s your favorite store to shop at during the holiday?

The Answers:

What is something you always buy and give a friend or family member for the holidays?

Amanda – I don’t have a go-to gift

Audrey –   There are nuns here in Cincinnati that make the most amazing little caramels every year and I always buy about 6 boxes of them and hand them out to friends. I also buy Christmas cards and gift cards (Starbucks and iTunes)

Chelsea -  I often give unique coffee mugs. I tend to be the recipient of repetitive (yet welcomed) gifts every year that include lottery scratch offs in my stocking, pajamas and a special Christmas ornament.

Jen  -  I make homemade holiday cookies/treats for neighbors and friends

Liz  -  Comfy socks, the fuzzy, warm, totally Winter kind, and always in a wonky patten that makes no sense in a regular wardrobe

Renee -  I never buy and give the same gifts

What’s your favorite store to shop at during the holiday?

Amanda – I tend to do a lot of shopping online, but don’t have one store that I frequent regularly for gifts

Audrey -   Any store that is online. Once Thanksgiving comes and goes, I really try not to go near a mall

Chelsea -  Etsy, Nordstrom and a local bookstore called Joseph Beth Booksellers

Jen –   Amazon

Liz -  Pier One. They have everything – little toys, ornaments, candles, pillows, wine glasses, etc.

Renee -  Costco

Sunday, October 4th, 2009

42 percent of U.S. consumers expected to spend less this holiday season

With the nation seemingly emerging from recession, American consumers remain skittish about spending their money during this upcoming holiday season according to new research from The Nielsen Company.  Households continue to focus on “essential gift giving” such as staple consumables, candy, beverage/alcohol and entertaining at home, and 86 percent said that they expect to spend the same or less this year than last — with a 7 percent increase in those indicating they would spend less.  Overall, Nielsen is projecting that holiday sales will rise 0.03 percent this year, accounting for $90 billion in dollar sales.
