The Team

The Questions

What is something you always buy and give a friend or family member for the holidays?

What’s your favorite store to shop at during the holiday?

The Answers:

What is something you always buy and give a friend or family member for the holidays?

Amanda – I don’t have a go-to gift

Audrey –   There are nuns here in Cincinnati that make the most amazing little caramels every year and I always buy about 6 boxes of them and hand them out to friends. I also buy Christmas cards and gift cards (Starbucks and iTunes)

Chelsea -  I often give unique coffee mugs. I tend to be the recipient of repetitive (yet welcomed) gifts every year that include lottery scratch offs in my stocking, pajamas and a special Christmas ornament.

Jen  -  I make homemade holiday cookies/treats for neighbors and friends

Liz  -  Comfy socks, the fuzzy, warm, totally Winter kind, and always in a wonky patten that makes no sense in a regular wardrobe

Renee -  I never buy and give the same gifts

What’s your favorite store to shop at during the holiday?

Amanda – I tend to do a lot of shopping online, but don’t have one store that I frequent regularly for gifts

Audrey -   Any store that is online. Once Thanksgiving comes and goes, I really try not to go near a mall

Chelsea -  Etsy, Nordstrom and a local bookstore called Joseph Beth Booksellers

Jen –   Amazon

Liz -  Pier One. They have everything – little toys, ornaments, candles, pillows, wine glasses, etc.

Renee -  Costco

Momma’s Too Rushed To Shop The Way She Used To

Thursday, November 3rd, 2011

Kids take all the joy out of shopping. Or at least that’s what the “American Mom Report” from BabyCenter and ComScore shows.

Mom’s are up for trying anything they can to save time/effort in the shopping process. Here are some ways they are trying to do this:

  • 40% have shopped using a mobile browser in the past 30 days
  • Moms were more than three times  as likely to text a picture of a product before purchasing it (That way, she can get confirmation from a friend that the top is cute, and therefore avoiding another trip to the store for a return)
  • Moms view shopping as competitive in terms of saving and are much more likely to scan a bar code or QR code to save money — even for savings under $5.

Don’t overlook the busy mom when considering a mobile platform or QR code campaign.

Hoseanna: Like Birchbox, but for the practical things in her life

Wednesday, November 2nd, 2011

While Birchbox (an office favorite) focuses on samples of high-end beauty product, a new subscription site focuses on practicality.

Hoseanna is a new site that allows women to subscribe to have staple items such as deodorant, feminine care items, toothpaste and even cute patterned tights sent right to her door!

You choose the products you like, determine how you want them shipped (one-time, or repeatedly every month, two months, etc) and like magic, you never have an excuse to run out of deodorant again!

Currently, they have a somewhat limited line-up of products available, so we’re anxious to see what they add. In the meantime, sign-up and rest easy knowing that your monthly essentials will arrive at your door.
